Random Choco Pic of the Day

Choco is surveying his domain. I don't think the snow has phased him at all.

Yet More Snow

I finished tilling the ground under the Arch on Thursay. Today it is covered in a couple inches of snow. I hope the onions that I just planted here are okay.

Tomato Snow

Here is the tomato pool. I am waiting to see what is left. I was really hoping spring was here...

Snow on the Peppers

Here is the pepper pool now. This snow should be gone soon. I will uncover the pepper plants and see what is left.

I just got the pepper plants and tomatoes planted on Monday. On Saturday we had about 3 inches of snow. We did our best to protect the plants with some cups from Quick Trip and a couple of tarps the night before the snow hit. Today (Sunday) the temperature is supposed to be in the 50's. I will pull the tarp off and hope for the best with the plants.

Random Choco Pic of the Day

I am about to get started with some more digging then I will go get some dirt for our containers. I thought I would leave off with a random pic of my dog Choco. This one is a good example of how he spends his days while I work.

Livestock Panel Arch

I wish I could say I was the first to think of this, but I see from a simple google search others have come before me. I am really anxious to see how this works for me. For an example of the abundance this concept can provide, check out this site. If I get half as much, I'll be excited.

Pepper Pool

I have started my pepper pool. Last year this was a tomato pool. I added a little more garden soil and planted a couple different varieties of hot peppers this year. I overloaded it with tomatoes last year and they seemed to do okay in spite of me. I thought maybe by planting peppers a little thinner, I might be able to get a good crop.

Squash Planting

I am in the process of planting squash on a makeshift arch. I am hoping to avoid any frost. There is supposed to be a chance of snow on Saturday with low temperatures in the mid 30's for at least the next week. I am planting anyway. I think the arch will work well. If Christina would let me, I would put a few more arches in the yard and grow everything on them. As it is, I only have the one arch. I think I will start some onions on one side and part of the center and start squash on the other side. I am anxious to see how it works out this summer. I had to trim quite a few branches off a a tree to get full sun in the spot where the arch is now to allow it the chance to perform well.

Lots of Good Stuff

Okay. I need to digest the Andrew Bird show a bit more. I know it's been a week already. Like most great moments in life it was ephemeral. I am desperately trying to keep the experience fresh in my mind. If I only had one word to describe it, that word would be stunning. I will be writing more about the show later when what's left of it in my mind has set.
I just listened to the Decemberists performance of the Hazards of Love at SXSW. Another show that will take some time to sink in. At least with The Decemberists I have the luxury of listening to it at my leisure.
The Kansas City Neil Young show is rescheduled for 4/30. I am very much looking forward to that. The timing is a little inconvenient, but whatever works for Neil you know.
I have a couple days off (today and tomorrow) and weather permitting I am going to plant my tomatoes, peppers, wildflowers, squash, and whatever Christina wants. So right now it is off to Atwoods to get some fence posts and chicken wire to keep Choco off the vegetables.

Happy St. Patricks Day!

I just finished washing my truck and trying to clean the interior. The vacuum at the car wash was not working right and the hose came off the canister before I finished. Other than that minor annoyance the day has been a good one. To top it all off nicely Andrew Bird is playing a show at the Cains tonight. Also there is a Billy Joel and Elton John show going on nearby. It will be a very busy night downtown. I am looking forward to the Andrew Bird show. Let the people who can afford to pay $200 and up for a ticket enjoy the other show. I think the Andrew Bird show is the best deal in town tonight.

Andrew Bird on the Way

This morning I am listening to Andrew Bird in anticipation of his upcoming show at the Cains. This guy amazes me. Anonanimal is an incredible song. This guy exemplifies why I like music. These compositions sound like the poems I try, or used to try, to write. I like it because it seems like it shouldn't make sense or work, but it makes perfect sense and works very well. It is a tempered bliss that doesn't require more of the listener than merely listening but does reward efforts beyond just listening. This is the good stuff.

Lipazzaner Stallions

My sig other and I went to see the Lipazanner Stallions a couple of weeks ago. It was a good show if you're into that sort of thing. I enjoyed trying to get some good pictures of the horses doing their tricks. It was not easy with the camera that I have. There is about a two second delay from when you press the button to when the camera actually takes the picture. I was able to get a few good ones with a little practice. I have been meaning to get these pictures uploaded for a while. If anyone is actually reading this, tell me what you think.

Saturday is Here

Finally the last day of the work week. Now I have a three day weekend starting tomorrow. Good stuff. I have some projects to start including getting the flower beds cleaned up and ready for planting and getting my tomato pools and squash trellis prepared. I am also planning on adding a cheap PC to my home entertainment system. I am getting the PC tomorrow and have a KVM switch ordered so it can coexist with my current desktop. I would like to use this box to store all of my video and music and stream from that box to my TiVos, Archos TV, and other computers. I plan on adding my 320 Gig Hard Drive in there for the moment and maybe a 500 Gig in the future. I like the idea of having one computer dedicated to just storage and stream and the other computers for productivity, downloading, and surfing. I do not need the latest and greatest. My current desktop is a ten year old Vaio that still surfs, runs bit torrent and some TiVo Apps well enough. The laptop is what I use for My Day to Day stuff and couldn't be happier with it. I just want to ease off of using it for everything so it can get some rest occasionally.

Oh yeah, Andrew Bird is coming to town on Tuesday. I haven't seen him live. I have high hopes for a great show. I will post back with how it was.

BryanBrinkman

Jimmy Fallon and the guys from Diggnation, Kevin Rose and Alex Albrecht, decided to try an experiment to see how many twitter followers they can get for a random audience member. I am not sure what they are hoping to prove by doing this... How many viewers Jimmy Fallon does not have? How many people still have self will and will not waste time following this guy just because Jimmy Fallon says so? Another question I have, has the Twitter fad run it's course like beanie babies, virtual pets, and Jimmy Fallen?

Friday

This feels like a long week. It is the last full work week I will have for the next three weeks. I should take more vacation. Working 5 days a week instead of 4 makes the days off fly by so much faster than I remember when I had a three day weekend every week. There never seems to be enough time relax and listen to music or watch a good movie... and there are so few good movies that are worth the time spent to watch them.

Chris Cornell on Jimmy Kimmel

I just saw Chris Cornell on Jimmy Kimmel. I'm not too impressed. I will not get into how this is nothing like Soundgarden or even Audioslave. I will leave that alone because the past is the past and an artist is supposed to grow and do more than rest on past achievement. I think Chris Cornell has out grown me though. His voice was once so powerful and commanding. Now it sounds reedy and weak. There is no substance left in it. I have no idea what he was singing about or if I should even care. There was nothing in the performance to compel me to check out his new album or even revisit his older work. I just want to leave it alone for now. It is disappointing.

Back from the Record Store

I got a good armful of vinyl that I am going to be listening to this afternoon. I found a copy of Thom Yorke The Eraser, A.C. Newman's Get Guilty, Sebadoh The Freed Man, Jenny Lewis and the Watson Twins Rabbit Fur Coat, and Radiohead Kid A. I am looking forward to killing the afternoon in some vinyl bliss.

M. Ward

I watched M. Ward last night on Craig Ferguson. The vocals were buried a bit by the double percussion, two keyboards, and three guitars, but it still sounded good and M. looked like he was having a good time. This is shaping up to look like it may be a very interesting show 4/22 at the Cains. The Cains is really coming through with some worthwhile acts lately. There is always something on the horizon.

Andrew Bird on Craig Ferguson

I just watched Andrew Bird perform on Craig Ferguson. It really whetted my appetite to see him live. The guy looks so intense and like he is having a very good time all at once when he performs. I think his show will be one to remember. Come on March 17th...

Lost

I watched Lost last night after work. I am still processing the events of the show. Jumping back and forth a 3 year span obviously leaves a lot of unanswered questions about what happened in between... The one big question I have though, is if it is 1977 island time and the Oceanic 6 have arrived again, what happened with the 30 or so years in between?

Thursday

I'm watching HAK5 right now. I try to find some practical applications for the different things they come up with, but I just don't need programmable USBs or to set up a PBX phone system in my house. Sometimes there are good tidbits to be had from the email questions. It's not a horrible way to fill the background noise...

Neva Dinova

I am listening to Neva Dinova - You May Already Be Dreaming - this morning. I like it. It has a mellow trippy style. For some reason it reminds me of Cracker if Cracker had been the byproduct of the Flaming Lips instead of Camper Van Beethoven. These are only first impression of my first listen to the album...

Long day

Finally home from work and relaxed. I have a little time to listen to some music or maybe watch a little TV before I go to work.

Man Jimmy Fallon looks like a deer in the headlights and that blue background he stands in front of for his monologue is not doing him any favors. This guy is going to need to figure this late night thing out fast.

I think I am better off catching up on some WNYC soundcheck. I can't take this Fallon dude anymore.

3/3/09

Third

I go to work today at 3 but have a few things to do before then.

Outside feels like spring is here finally. I am ready. Cold weather is not for me.

I am looking forward to a mini vacation in a couple of weeks and hopefully I will be able to plant some squash and tomatoes. Come on summertime.

Right now I am watching systm. These guys are crazy. They are hooking up a car battery to a UPS... Good stuff.

Neva Dinova - Yellow Datsun

Ah. Here it is. Can't find a full performance of Supercomputer. It must be out there somewhere.

Music to Check Out

Neva Dinova and Ida. This looks like it might be interesting. I would like to listen to more.

Van Morrison on Jimmy Fallon

Just watched Van Morrison perform. His voice isn't what it once was. I am fond of his No Guru era stuff, but the return to Astral Weeks is working for me too. So much good stuff out there...

WILCO - YOU ARE MY FACE - LIVE AT BBC

Andrew Bird - Anonanimal

Jawdropping.

Second

I am back from the record store. Lot's of vinyl to be had out there. I bought some Dylan albums, a couple Kinks, some Toto for my sig other and Blonde Redhead album I am looking forward to checking out.

Right now I am listening to the This Week in Tech talk about the Kindle and the death of publishing. I am looking forward to seeing the Kindle come down to an affordable price, say $99. They will sell a ton of them at that price and wind up selling a lot more books and subs. It will take a while, but they will eventually get it to that price point and then I will buy one.

Now I am off to retrieve the records from the truck and listen to something new on vinyl. Such sweet simple pleasures in the middle of the afternoon...

First

I am listening to Useless Creatures and getting ready to accomplish menial tasks so I can come back home and relax. There is a sale at a local record shop I will check out later. Half off used vinyl sounds like a good way to kill a couple of hours this afternoon.
